A man was arrested on assault charges after allegedly swinging a knife at a man walking his dog Saturday in Santa Clarita.
Around 3 p.m. Saturday, deputies received reports of an assault with a deadly weapon on 14th Street near Railroad Avenue in Newhall, according to Sgt. Brian Shreves with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s Detective Bureau.
The suspect approached a man walking his dog and swung a knife at the pedestrian, Shreves said.
Deputies located the suspect on Railroad Avenue and became involved in a foot pursuit, according to officials.
A nearby stringer was able to assist deputies in stopping the fleeing suspect, who was then taken into custody, according to Shreves.
A knife was recovered shortly after the arrest was made, according to officials.
Prior to the suspect allegedly swinging a knife at the victim, a robbery was reported in the same general area as the attack, according to officials.
However, as of the publication of this article, detectives have not determined if the attacker was responsible for the robbery.
