COVID-19 Variants Continue To Be Discovered In Los Angeles County

Variant cases of COVID-19 continue to be identified in Los Angeles County, with the most common circulating variant of concern in L.A. County being the UK variant.

Out of 40 specimens analyzed by the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (LADPH) laboratory in the past week, 53 percent were the UK variant (B.1.1.7.) and none were the previously dominant California variant. The lab also detected six Brazil variants last week and one South African variant.

“We send our deepest condolences to the friends and families who are grieving today and wish you healing,” said Dr. Barbara Ferrer, director of Public Health. “There has now been ample research conducted on the vaccine, and study after study show extraordinarily high level of protection from COVID-19.
