Scott Wilk Assigned To Seven Committees In State Senate

State Senator Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, announced Monday that he has been assigned to seven different committees within the state senate, three of which he has been appointed to the role of Vice Chair.

On Monday, Wilk announced the seven state senate committees that he is set to serve on for the upcoming legislative session, which are:

  • Budget and Fiscal Review
  • Business, Professions and Economic Development
  • Education
  • Energy, Utilities and Communications
  • Governmental Organization
  • Rules
  • Transportation

“California is facing unprecedented challenges – homelessness, wildfires, and economic devastation. The high cost of living has forced far too many people into homelessness, the governor’s on-again, off-again, shut down orders have wreaked havoc on our economy and our schools,” Wilk said in a statement Monday. “I am very pleased to be assigned to committees that will look at these issues and work to craft solutions to the problems that make California so difficult for so many.”

Out of those seven committees, Wilk has been appointed to serve as Vice Chair for three: Education, Governmental Organization, and Rules.

As Vice Chair for the Senate Committee on Education, Wilk has the opportunity to hear bills relating to both K-12 and higher education that deal with issues that he says have “never been more critical.”

“Distance learning – or lack thereof – is creating challenges for students up and down the state,” Wilk said. “The pandemic is also exposing the stark differences in our school systems and the limited choices the state provides parents to decide what is the best school for their child.”

Wilk is also set to maintain his position in the Senate Rules Committee, which is responsible for vetting hundreds of gubernatorial appointments and serves as the key committee in the Senate’s role of “advice and consent.”  It also has jurisdiction over proposed amendments and rules that govern the Senate as well as all other matters relating to the business of the Legislature.

“The committee is considered the most influential assignment in the Senate and membership must be confirmed by a vote of the full Senate,” a statement from Wilk’s office reads.

In addition to his state senate committees, Wilk is also set to serve as a member of the Joint Committee on Art and Entertainment, as well as the Joint Committee on Rules.
