Officials with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reported Monday that the county was seeing “promising decreases” in the number of patients in the hospital with COVID-19.
Los Angeles County is showing “promising decreases” in hospitalizations, dropping from a 7-day average of 7,800 on Jan. 27, to 5,053 on Jan. 30, according to L.A. County Supervisor Hilda L. Solis.
“Although our hospitalizations remain higher than they were before the surge, we are seeing numbers decreased significantly,” Solis said. “That is why I want to encourage our residents to not delay medical care. Please do not avoid going to the hospital or seeing your medical provider. If you need medical attention health care workers are prepared to care for you with some residents returning to work with are loosening restrictions.”
An additional 4,223 COVID-19 cases were reported in Los Angeles County on Monday, along with 85 deaths, according to the LADPH Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer.
“We are at a critical moment in the pandemic,” Ferrer said.
The new cases reported Monday bring the county’s cumulative total to 1,120,895 positive cases of COVID-19 and 16,854 deaths since the onset of the pandemic, according to the department.
As of Monday, there were 5,398 people hospitalized with COVID-19, 27 percent of which were in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Testing results are available for over 5,500,000 people, with 19 percent of people testing positive.
The Southern California Region has 0.0% staffed adult ICU capacity remaining as of Monday, according to state health officials.
Residents are encouraged to continue to prevent the spread of COVID-19, to not gather in crowds, stay home when sick, wear a face covering and maintain physical distance from others when outside of the home.
“It’s only by these actions that each business and each individual in LA County takes that we’re going to see this continued reduction in transmission in order to move forward in our recovery,” Ferrer said. “Everyone needs to play by the rules that are in place to keep all of us as safe as possible.”
