One Arrested For Felony Vandalism After Cutting Gas Line, Stealing Fuel

One individual was arrested for vandalism after cutting a hole in the gas line of a vehicle and stealing fuel.

On Tuesday, Dec. 1, deputies from the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station responded to the 28000 block of Smyth Drive for a reported vandalism, according to Candice Gonzales, a spokesperson for the station.

“It was reported (the victim’s) white GMC had been vandalized by a hole being cut into the gas tank and fuel line, causing the vehicle’s gas being stolen,” Gonzales said. “While searching through surveillance footage, the deputy discovered on an earlier date, an unknown White Toyota with unique vehicle identifiers driving into camera view and parking next to the vehicle.”

In the surveillance footage, a male adult is seen exiting his vehicle and causing the vandalism to the victim’s GMC.

Using the surveillance footage, deputies were able to identify the suspect based on their identifiable vehicle “due to previous arrests and prior contacts.”

Jason Alan Lieberman, 40 years old, of Saugus was later located, arrested and booked for felony vandalism by the assisting deputies, according to Deputy Gonzales.
