Weekend Arrests In Santa Clarita Sees Drop In Felony Charges

This weekend, law enforcement officials in the Santa Clarita Valley saw 12 arrests, six fewer than last weekend’s 18, marking an end to the steady upward trend in weekend bookings.

12 total arrests were logged this weekend by Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station deputies and officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office, down from 18 last weekend.

This weekend’s numbers marked a steep drop off compared to the rising weekend crime trend of the previous few weekends, according to law enforcement.

Out of total arrests this weekend, only one was listed as a felony and 10 as misdemeanors, with the outlier a revocation of parole, according to booking logs.

A majority of total bookings this weekend, 10 in total, were listed as related to drugs or alcohol, according to arrest logs.

Nine of these arrests were reportedly listed as driving-under-the-influence (DUI) and one involved possession of a controlled substance.

Certain notable arrests include corporal injury against a spouse or cohabitant and a rearrest citation, according to booking logs.

Exactly half of weekend bookings were of individuals from addresses outside of the Santa Clarita Valley.
