Tree Struck By Lightning In Santa Clarita Causes Brush Fire, Briefly Threatening Structures


A palm tree was struck by lightning Monday evening, sparking a brush fire briefly threatening structures in the area.

At around 5:30 p.m. Monday, first responders received reports of a brush fire on Sycamore Creek Drive in Saugus, said Miguel Ornelas, dispatch supervisor for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

The fire is a small spot fire and was threatening structures, according to Fire officials.

The fire was started after a palm tree was struck by lightning, according to officials.

Crews were able to fully extinguish the fire.
