A Santa Clarita sexual assault suspect was sentenced to just under four years in state prison after pleading “no contest” last month to having unlawful intercourse with a minor.
Kai Sommers pleaded no contest last month to one felony count each of unlawful sex with a minor under 16 years and lewd act upon a child age 14 or 15, said Ricardo Santiago, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office.
In December 2020, detectives with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Special Victims Bureau began investigating the circumstances regarding the sexual assault of a 14-year-old female at a residence located in the 20400 block of Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country, said Sgt. Brian Hudson, with the Bureau at the time of the arrest.

“The suspect began communicating with the victim in September 2020, initially in a teen chat room on the Internet,” Hudson said.
The suspect reportedly began utilizing a messaging application on his cell phone to communicate with her, according to Sheriff’s officials.
“On Oct. 1, 2020, the suspect picked up the victim from her residence in San Bernardino County and drove her back to his residence in Santa Clarita,” Hudson said.
Once at his residence, the Sommers allegedly sexually assaulted the victim.
“He then drove the victim back to her residence later that morning,” Hudson Said.
Sommers was sentenced to 44 months in state prison, according to Santiago.
