A lightning storm sparked a fire near the Chiquita Canyon Landfill in Santa Clarita Monday evening, marking the second fire of the night.
UPDATE (6:30 p.m.): Forward progress of the fire has been stopped at 1/2 acre.
The brush fire, dubbed the Chiquita Fire, was first reported around 5:50 p.m. Monday on the 28100 block of Chiquito Canyon Road prompted a response from firefighters, said Miguel Ornelas, dispatch supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“The fire is at a quarter acre right now and we have units on scene,” Ornelas said.
The fire is slowly spreading towards the landfill and no structures are threatened.
This fire is one of several fires reported due to the lightning strikes.
