Providence, Other L.A. County Health Systems Team Up To Encourage Preventative Healthcare

Providence and other major healthcare systems in the Los Angeles Coalition have come together to encourage patients, including those living in Santa Clarita, to use preventative healthcare services.

Providence, UCLA Health, Keck Medicine of USC, Dignity Health and Cedars-Sinai, all part of the LA Coalition, have partnered up in the BetterTogether.Health campaign to raise awareness for the importance of health screenings and other preventive healthcare measures.

“We are confident these efforts make a positive difference in community health,” said Kevin Manemann, chief executive for Providence Southern California. “This collaboration of health systems is not only extraordinary, it provides critical information in meeting a challenge beyond anything any of us ever experienced.”

Back in March 2020, the LA Coalition was formed with five major healthcare systems serving Los Angeles County to help inform the public about community health.

The new educational campaign from the coalition features everyday patient heroes with the theme, “Get Back to Your Doctor. Your Health. Your Joy. Because We Love a Healthy L.A.”

BetterTogether.Health is set to feature 11 Angelenos who were able to overcome health challenges because of preventative care, from well-known athletes and entertainers to everyday residents, according to Providence.

The public service effort is slated to be broadcast over radio, television, billboards, buses, malls, newspapers, magazines, social media and digital platforms, representatives said.

Representatives with Providence have called a lack of preventative care “a new public health crisis” with the potential to cause serious health consequences.

“Among issues driving the new campaign are ongoing concerns among health care professionals who see people not seeking timely, preventive and life-saving services, health screenings and medical assistance when critical to do so,” said a statement from Providence. “Unfortunately, too often the results are late-stage cancers, advanced heart disease, debilitating strokes and other serious medical conditions.”

Reacting quickly to health emergencies is essential when it comes to maintaining good health, representatives said.

It is important to get to a hospital rapidly if experiencing symptoms of a life-threatening condition like a heart attack or stroke, according to representatives with Providence.

Additionally, officials recommend keeping children up to date on vaccinations to prevent outbreaks of preventable diseases like measles and whooping cough.
