City Of Santa Clarita Holds Groundbreaking Ceremony For Central Park Expansion Project

On Monday, the City Council of Santa Clarita held a groundbreaking ceremony at Central Park to celebrate the beginning of the ‘Central Park Buildout’ project.

This week, a groundbreaking ceremony was held in Santa Clarita’s Central Park in honor of the ‘Central Park Buildout’ project, with the event being hosted by the City Council.

“The Central Park Buildout is identified as a major project in the City’s Santa Clarita 2025 strategic plan,” said Carrie Lujan, spokesperson for the City of Santa Clarita. “The project consists of adding four multipurpose fields, field lighting, an exercise staircase, a new restroom, additional parking and enhancements to the Central Bark dog park.”

The ceremony featured speeches from Santa Clarita Mayor Bill Miranda, SCV Water Board President Gary Martin, as well as representatives from the offices of Congressman Mike Garcia, Assemblywoman Suzette Valladares and others.

“From our miles of paseos and off-street trails, to thousands of acres of open space and 35 parks, there are plenty of ways to enjoy our beautiful city and the wonderful southern California weather that’s year-round over here,” Miranda said. “The Central Park Buildout project is just one of the many action items of the city’s five-year strategic plan SC 2025.”

Construction of the Buildout project for Central Park is set to take place in the less-developed, southwestern portion of Central Park, according to the Mayor.

“On behalf of and from all of us at SCV Water, congratulations on this wonderful new expansion to Central Park,” Martin said. “It has truly become a landmark in our city, and I said that as a 43-year resident of SCV.”

Two new fields are to be built, an existing passive turf area is planned to be converted into two more full-sized fields and new amenities are expected to be constructed in what is currently a dirt area surrounded by the Central Park hiking trail along the southern portion of the park.

Sitting on around 130 acres of land, Central Park opened in 2000 and includes four lighted softball fields, a community garden,10 sports fields, outdoor basketball courts, an 18-hole disc golf course, the Central Bark dog park, an outdoor fitness zone, a playground and hiking trails.

Central Park is located at 27150 Bouquet Canyon Road, near Saugus High School.
