Santa Clarita Olympian, Allyson Felix, made Olympic history and brought home her 11th Olympic medal in the 4×400 meter relay during her final race on Saturday.
Having become the nation’s most decorated track Olympian on Saturday, Felix exceeded her medal-winning lead by taking home her second bronze in her last Olympic Games.

Previously held by nine-time Olympic medalist Lerlene Ottey, the record for most medals won by a female Olympic track athlete was transferred to Felix, who possesses 11 Olympic medals following the 2020 Olympic Games.

Felix took home her tenth medal and first bronze on Friday in the 400-meter race, where she tied with Carl Lewis’s record of 10 Olympic medals held by a U.S. track and field athlete.
“Congratulations @allysonfelix,” Lewis said in a tweet on Friday. “35 never looked so good. What an amazing career and inspiration. Now on to the relay.”
On Saturday, she exceeded Lewis’ record by taking home her second bronze in the 4×400 meter relay.
The team of four finished almost four seconds ahead of Poland, who won silver, while Jamaica took the bronze.
“To close it out this way is special,” Felix said in an ESPN interview following her bronze medal win. “I know those people who came before me and how they inspired me… The next generation is going to be up here talking about them and that’s the biggest thing beyond running on the track: actually impacting lives.”
Felix grew up in Santa Clarita and went on to win her first Olympic medal in 2004 when she was a teenager. She later went on to attend five total Olympic Games.

Felix brought home gold and silver in Beijing in 2008, before winning three gold medals in the London 2012 Olympic Games.
In 2016, she snagged another gold and silver at the Rio Olympic Games, bringing her total to 10 before the 2020 Olympic Games.
In total, Felix holds six gold, three silver and two bronze medals.
Even before winning bronze in Tokyo, Felix was the only female Olympic athlete to ever win six gold medals.
“Note to self: Thank you for dreaming big and persisting even when we couldn’t see the finish line,” read a tweet from Felix only two days before making Olympic history.
