Henry Mayo Reports Two Additional Coronavirus-Related Deaths, 32 Patients Hospitalized

Two additional COVID-19 deaths reported Thursday brought Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital’s total coronavirus death count to 162, with 32 patients currently hospitalized.

On Thursday, Henry Mayo reported two additional coronavirus-related deaths and 32 patients hospitalized, according to Patrick Moody, spokesperson for Henry Mayo.

The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) reported Wednesday that ongoing coronavirus outbreaks have slightly decreased in non-school settings.

“While we are seeing decreases in new cases and hospitalizations, COVID-19 deaths have not declined and transmission remains high,” said Public Health Director Dr. Barbara Ferrer on Wednesday. “Without a significant increase in the numbers of eligible residents vaccinated, there is a risk of case increases this fall and winter as COVID-19 is easily spread among those unvaccinated.”

Public Health has begun investigating 258 ongoing outbreaks in non-school settings, a slight decrease from the 300 ongoing outbreaks in non-school settings reported last week, according to Public Health.

Of the outbreak investigations reported Wednesday, nearly 30 percent are related to outbreaks in non-healthcare and non-residential workplaces, including workplaces, food and retail stores and places of worship; 5 percent in healthcare settings; and 65 percent in residential settings, according to Public Health.

“Public Health inspectors visit businesses across the county every day to ensure compliance with required safety measures and masking guidelines, provide technical assistance, and respond to complaints of non-compliance,” read a statement from Public Health.

Between Aug. 28 and Sept. 3, Public Health inspectors visited 901 restaurants, 13 bars, 229 food markets, 3 breweries, 32 hotels, 44 gyms and fitness centers, 122 hair salons or barbershops, 57 food manufacturing plants, 56 garment manufacturing plants, 239 personal care businesses, 21 retail stores, 10 warehouses, 21 office sites, 12 family entertainment venues and 6 large outdoor and indoor venues with a capacity for more than 10,000 people, according to Public Health.

Inspections revealed that the majority of businesses were in compliance, but there is still room for improvement, specifically regarding masking at fitness centers, bars, warehouses and garment manufacturing plants, according to Public Health.

During the inspections, only seven citations were issued for noncompliance with Health Officer Orders.

Violations of safety requirements and dangerous conditions can be reported anonymously to Public Health by phone at 888-700-9995 or online.

On Wednesday, Public Health confirmed 49 new deaths and 2,006 new cases of COVID-19 across L.A. County, but is expected to be a slight miscount due to missing test results from one lab, according to Public Health.
