Felony Vandalism Suspect In Custody After Damaging KHTS Radio Window

The man who allegedly vandalized Santa Clarita’s Hometown Station Tuesday was arrested after deputies spotted him driving near the location.

On Tuesday deputies responded to the 24300 block of Main Street in Newhall regarding a vandalism call for service, which occurred around 3:30 a.m., said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Upon arrival, deputies learned the front windows of the business had been damaged,” Arriaga.

Deputies reviewed surveillance footage and identified a suspect and suspected vehicle.

“At a later time, the same day, deputies observed a vehicle matching the suspected vehicle description traveling southbound on Railroad Avenue and 12th Street in Newhall,” Arriaga said.
Deputies conducted a traffic stop and detained the occupants pending further investigation.

While speaking with the driver, deputies identified him as the suspect from the surveillance video.

Hector Gayton, 55, from Val Verde was arrested for felony vandalism, Arriaga added.

A woman, who was a passenger in his vehicle, was also arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia.

Gayton was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $0, according to arrest records.
