As part of his California Comeback Bus Tour, former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer stopped at Black Bear Diner in Santa Clarita Saturday afternoon to campaign to become California’s next Governor in the upcoming recall election.
Hoping to restore “California’s promise of freedom, equality and opportunity,” Faulconer developed the California Comeback Tour to meet with the state’s residents before the upcoming election, according to Faulconer.
Faulconer discussed his beliefs amid the coronavirus pandemic and was met with applause from the audience.
“We need a Governor who is going to stand up and do the right things, ” Faulconer said during the conference. “It’s not about doing what is politically correct, but it’s about doing the right thing… This is about making California a state we can actually fix.”
Surrounded by dozens of Santa Clarita residents in Black Bear Diner’s private room, Faulconer discussed his many plans if elected, including the expansion of wildfire funding, reducing homelessness, constructing new reservoirs and more.
“Something I have put forward in our campaign is the largest middle class tax cut in California history to provide permanent, real relief for everybody here,” Faulconer said during his speech.
Santa Clarita Mayor Bill Miranda along with other local political figures attended the event to listen to Faulconer’s campaign.
Towards the beginning of the conference, Faulconer asked the audience to raise their hand if they were looking to leave the state.
The request prompted almost all hands to rise, before the audience started shouting out the names of states they would like to move to given the opportunity.
“When I ask that question, I always get the same response: we all know our state’s too expensive,” Faulconer said. “People are literally voting with their feet. They want you to send more tax money to Sacramento instead of fixing the problems themselves.”

Faulconer’s California Comeback Bus Tour first stopped in Stockton, where he and his team further discussed California-wide crime and homelessness rates, according to Faulconer.
“It’s time to address these problems head on to ensure our communities are safe, secure and prosperous,” Faulconer said.
The tour has since travelled down from northern California to visit Santa Clarita and other cities to hear from residents across the state.
“What happened to the promise of California? On Gavin Newsom’s watch our schools are failing, homelessness is skyrocketing, small businesses are closing and jobs are disappearing,” according to a statement on Faulconer’s website. “His broken promises have become our problems.”
As a previous “big city” Republican mayor, Faulconer became known for bringing California’s second-largest city back from the brink of bankruptcy after being rocked by a corrupt mayor, according to campaign officials.
“I know we can restore California’s promise of freedom, equality, and opportunity,” Faulconer said on his website. “That’s our promise. That’s the California comeback.”
Three young Santa Clarita boys meet Faulconer during the meet and greet portion of the event.
