A driver was detained after causing two vehicles to flip in a Santa Clarita crash on the 14 Freeway Saturday evening, prompting a SigAlert to investigate the incident.
Around 7 p.m. Saturday, emergency responders received reports of a three-vehicle traffic collision with persons trapped on the southbound 14 Freeway just north of Soledad Canyon Road in Canyon Country, according to Bernard Peters, a dispatch supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
“Patients are being transported by basic ambulance,” Peters said.
Upon approaching the scene, officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) observed two vehicles on their side with one in the No. 1 lane and the other on the roadside, with debris scattered across all lanes.
When emergency responders approached the crash, a passenger in one of the vehicles was located with “their legs pinned” and an unconscious person was trapped inside one of the vehicles, per the CHP Incident logs.
The unconscious person shortly gained consciousness at the scene of the crash, according to CHP.
According to witnesses, a white car swerved into another lane, causing the traffic collision, and proceeded to exit at the Sand Canyon off-ramp in an unknown direction, according to CHP officials.
The driver who caused the crash had noticeable damage and was traveling on a rim before quickly being located by officers, according to reports.
“It looks like somebody walked away from the crash, whether they purposefully fled or just pulled over to a safer location is unknown at this time,” said Stephen Brandt with the CHP Traffic Management Center. “But someone is being detained while they investigate the incident.”
Information regarding the extent of injuries sustained remain unknown as of 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
As of 7:20 p.m. Saturday, a SigAlert had been issued for the No. 3 lane of the 14 Freeway for approximately one hour to allow CHP officers to investigate the incident and clear the debris, according to the CHP Information Logs.
The SigAlert had been cancelled as of 8:30 p.m. Saturday.
