9/11 Remembered At Guardians Patriot Day and Car Show Event

Santa Clarita non-profit Guardians hosted a Patriot Day car show and breakfast on Saturday to recognize the 20th anniversary of the 9/11 terrorist attacks.

The opening ceremony began at 8 a.m. on Saturday at Higher Vision Church in Valencia, with special guest speakers Congressman Mike Garcia, Assemblywoman Suzette Martinez Valladares and City Councilman Jason Gibbs.

“Today we’re out here to commemorate the 20th anniversary of that heartbreaking day in our nation,” Garcia said.

At the time of 9/11, Garcia was serving in the Navy and was in a training brief when news of the attacks broke:

“We knew right then that our training had become more important as we transitioned into a peacetime era into what would become a 20 year global war on terror,” Garcia said.

The event brought community members and first responders together to remember the bravery of that day as flags were displayed on the classic cars and fire engines in the parking lot for event-goers to look at.

A flyover took place at the event at around 9 a.m. as well, with four aircrafts making a trail in the sky to showcase respect for the fallen heros. By the stage area, a model replica of the Pentagon and Twin Towers were on display.

Throughout the event participants could partake in viewing the car show, enjoying a free breakfast from the Guardians non-profit and talking to local first responders and representatives.

“It’s been an amazing morning with the National Anthem being sung and we’ve got some amazing vehicles out here,” said Guardians president and founder Tim Traurig..

Guardians Support Center is known in the community for providing peer-to-peer support for veterans and first responders, offering access to a community with similar experiences and struggles, according to the organization.
