The Hart High School Girls Volleyball program is hosting a cornhole tournament in October to help raise funds to support the teams.
The money raised is set to help pay for equipment, pay fees for families who cannot afford uniforms or other fees, as well as transportation to games and tournaments, according to past booster club president Erika Kauzlarich-Bird.
Currently, there are 37 girls in the program, split between the freshman, junior varsity, and varsity teams, according to Kauzlarich-Bird.
Having the chance for the full teams to take part in tournaments and games, an opportunity not available during the height fo the COVID-19 shutdown last year, is a much-awaited experience for players and parents alike.
“It’s so nice for them to be back in school and have the practices. Back at the very first game I got very emotional, because the whole program was there to cheer varsity girls on, and they couldn’t do that last year, it was limited attendance,” Kauzlarich-Bird said. “Varsity, they’ve been undefeated the last four years at Hart and to sit in the gym and have the rest of the team cheering them on, it was so great.”
The indoor event is scheduled for Saturday, Oct. 2, at 25385 Rye Canyon Road, and is set to include a silent auction, raffle and food available for purchase.
Teams must be registered by 12 p.m. on the day of the event at $60 per team, with bags flying at 12:30 p.m.
