Two Hikers Airlifted After Separate Medical Emergencies In Santa Clarita

Two hikers experiencing separate medical emergencies were airlifted via helicopter in Santa Clarita on Sunday, officials said.

Around 11:55 a.m. Sunday, emergency responders received reports of a medical emergency near Placerita Canyon Road and the 14 Freeway according to Miguel Ornelas, a dispatch supervisor with the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“The patient was airlifted to a local hospital,” Ornelas said.

Within minutes of the report, emergency responders received a second reported medical emergency near Towsley Canyon Park off of The Old Road in Newhall, according to Ornelas.

Two people were transported via helicopter to the park’s entrance as a result of the medical emergency in Newhall.

“They were lifted out, but our copter did not transport,” Ornelas said. “Both calls occurred just off of trails in the area.”

Copter 14, AR5 and Copter 22 responded to the two scenes to assist with the injuries, according to Ornelas.

The extent of all injuries sustained has not been made available as of 1:30 p.m. Sunday.
