Santa Clarita Weekend Arrests More Than Double In Number As Temperatures Rise

Santa Clarita saw 25 arrests this weekend, more than double the arrests made last weekend, with most of the suspects taken into custody for drug and alcohol-related charges.

From Friday through Sunday, law enforcement officials made 25 arrests in Santa Clarita compared to 12 last weekend, with 15 drug and alcohol-related bookings.

Arrests for drug possession and driving under the influence (DUI) related charges tied for the most common type of arrest this weekend, according to arrest logs.

Six people were arrested for each of these charges respectively, officials said.

DUIs made up a larger proportion of arrests last weekend, with 50 percent of bookings being on that charge, according to booking logs.

Nearly a quarter of arrests made this weekend were on felony charges, a smaller proportion compared to last week, when 41 percent of arrests made were on felony charges, according to arrest records.

One person was arrested on a felony DUI charge after causing a two-car crash, injuring an individual, officials said.

Other felony arrests were for violence against a former spouse, robbery and forgery exceeding $950 in value, according to booking logs.

Additionally, a Los Angeles Unified School District employee was arrested on felony charges for cruelty to a child likely to produce great bodily injury or death after she drove under the influence of alcohol with a 4-year-old in her vehicle, officials said.

Another individual was booked at the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station who was arrested on felony charges by a human trafficking task force for rape by force or fear that occurred in the Lost Hills/Malibu area, according to Sheriff’s officials.

None of those arrested on felony charges were residents of Santa Clarita, according to officials.

Seven of the individuals arrested this weekend were Santa Clarita residents, with the other 18 being from outside of the valley.
