The Soledad Canyon Assisted Living Facility on the north side of Soledad Canyon Road was unanimously approved by the Santa Clarita Planning Commission during their regularly scheduled meeting on Tuesday.
The Santa Clarita Planning Commission unanimously approved the Soledad Canyon Assisted Living Facility on Tuesday with a few minor adjustments to the project.
Earlier this year, a Conditional Use Permit (CUP) was requested to begin alterations of a 216-bed community care facility expected to be located in an existing 100,327 square-foot building located at 17901 Soledad Canyon Road.
The original building consisted of 100,000 feet of office space, but the building had remained vacant and unfinished for over 15 years, according to organizers with the Soledad Canyon Assisted Living Facility.
“That’s a great reuse of a building that’s been sitting there for 15 years,” Santa Clarita Planning Commissioner Renee Berlin said during the meeting. “Kudos to you (with the project).”
The proposed subject property includes an existing, vacant, three-story office building that was approved and constructed in 2006 on a 2.2-acre site on the north side of Soledad Canyon Road.
Amid the Santa Clarita Planning Commission meeting, organizers with the project discussed accommodating more open space into the surrounding area of the premises, additional parking as well as outdoor patio shading for resident comfort.

With the CUP approved during the meeting, assisted living arrangements are able to proceed with the facility expecting to include 216 beds with the first floor containing 18 beds specializing in memory care as well as six private rooms and six semi-private rooms, according to organizers.
The second and third floors would contain 98 semi-private rooms, accommodating up to196 beds with their own dining rooms as well as recreation rooms for resident entertainment.
The most noticeable renovation amid the construction is the expected outdoor seating area along the back property line, which was originally projected to take up 40 of the 375 existing parking spaces.
Other changes include the exterior colors of the building, which are expected to be altered from peach and white to hues of green, blue and yellow, according to organizers.
