Santa Clarita Identity Theft Suspect Faces Nearly A Dozen Charges After DUI Complaint

A Sun Valley man was arrested on nearly a dozen charges Monday, after being reported to Sheriff’s deputies as a possible drunk driver.

Around 10:30 p.m. Monday, deputies responded to Golden Valley Road and Oak Crest Drive in Canyon Country regarding a possible drunk driving call, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Upon arrival, deputies observed a parked vehicle matching the reported vehicle description,” Arriaga said.

When deputies approached the vehicle, they identified the front license plate to be counterfeit, Arriaga said.

Through the deputies’ investigation, they identified the vehicle had expired registration and was illegally parked.

“During a search of the vehicle, deputies located narcotics, several California Driver Licenses and checks not named to the suspect, as well as several access cards not named to the suspect, among other contraband,” Arriaga added.

Edgar Vega, 48, from Sun Valley was arrested on felony counts of forgery, counterfeit driver’s license, forgery of a state seal, manufacturing counterfeit license, possession of blank checks, counterfeit U.S. currency, identity theft with priors, identity theft of 10 or more persons, and misdemeanor charges of counterfeit license plate, possession of methamphetamine and possession of drug paraphernalia, Arriaga added.

Vega was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail and was later released on a citation to appear in court at a later date, according to Arriaga.
