Santa Clarita Weekend Arrests See 40 Percent Increase

Santa Clarita saw 24 arrests this weekend, a 40 percent increase from the previous week, with nearly half being for driving under the influence (DUI).

Between Friday and Sunday, 24 arrests were made in Santa Clarita compared to 14 last week, with a majority of arrests being drug and alcohol-related.

Out of the 24 arrests made this weekend, 19 were drug-related. Last week saw less than half that number of drug-related arrests, with only nine arrests made.

The most common arrest this weekend was for DUI. Out of all the arrests, 10 were made on DUI charges.

Of the 24 arrested, 13 were residents of the Santa Clarita Valley, according to Fire officials.

Seven of the arrests were on felony charges. Three of the felony arrests were for possession or purchase of controlled substances for sale and one was for the embezzlement of a rented or leased vehicle.

An additional felony arrest was made on charges of oral copulation with a person under 16 years old. One arrest was made on charges of elder abuse and another was on felony assault charges, according to arrest records.

Weekend arrests had been decreasing since February. This weekend’s numbers mark a sudden increase in overall arrests, according to the arrest logs.
