Robbery Suspect In Custody After Stealing From Santa Clarita 7-Eleven

A robbery suspect was taken into custody Monday evening after he allegedly attempted to forcefully steal items from a Santa Clarita 7-Eleven.

Around 11:20 p.m. Monday,  deputies responded to the 7-Eleven on the 27600 block of Lake Hughes Road in Castaic regarding an assault with a deadly weapon call, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Upon arrival, a male adult matching the suspect description was detained pending further investigation,” Arriaga said.

During their investigation, deputies learned the suspect entered the business and began taking several items off store shelves, and avoided paying for them, according to Arriaga.

“As the suspect attempted to exit the business, he pushed an employee into the door in order to exit,” Arriaga said.

The male detained was identified as the suspect by a witness, according to Sheriff’s officials.

Leonel Carrillo, 30, from Newhall, was arrested for felony robbery, according to arrest records.

Carrillo was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station jail with bail set at $50,000, according to Arriaga.

The victim sustained a minor injury due to the incident.
