The SCV GOP: The Republicans of Santa Clarita, are set to host a Fourth of July parade Sunday, weaving its way through City neighborhoods accompanied by local representatives.
On Sunday, the parade is expected to start at 1 p.m. from the parking lot of Furniture Now, the old K-Mart location on Valencia Boulevard, according to event organizers.
After hearing that the City of Santa Clarita’s main Fourth of July Parade was going to be canceled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, the Republicans of Santa Clarita are doing what they can to still bring patriotism to the Santa Clarita Valley, said Mark Hershey, a member of the group and a 50-year resident and retired Sheriff’s Deputy of Santa Clarita.
“We are participating in the parade this year, and we are wanting to get like-minded people who love the country and love the City to join this parade,” Hershey said.
Decorated cars trucks and the KHTS fire engine, accompanied by City Councilmember Jason Gibbs are set to go on a guided cruise through neighborhoods throughout Santa Clarita including Newhall, Saugus, Valencia and Canyon Country, with Assemblymember Suzette Valladares, R-Santa Clarita in the lead car.
“One of the keystone events we all look forward to in Santa Clarita is the annual Fourth of July parade, but for two years now Covid has halted this wonderful tradition,” Gibbs said. “I look forward to honoring all those who fought and sacrificed for our independence, and continue the tradition of recognizing this historic day in America’s history.”
Santa Clarita residents who have classic cars or would like to decorate their vehicle patriotically without any profanity are encouraged to show up to the Furniture Now Parking lot at 12:30 p.m. Sunday to get ready to join the parade.
“I’m thrilled to spend Independence Day celebrating in my hometown with food, fun and the great patriotic people of the Santa Clarita Valley,” Valladares said. “It’s great to be together in person once again.”
The Fourth of July Parade is expected to end at 2 p.m. at The Route 66 Classic Grill in Canyon Country for “drinks, food and patriotic camaraderie” with Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita.
“I’m honored to be joining the SCV GOP this Fourth of July weekend to celebrate our nation’s independence.,” Garcia said. “They believe, like I do, in the greatness that is America and understand now more than ever that while we celebrate, we must also do everything in our power to protect and defend our Constitution and God-given freedoms.”
Furniture Now is located at 23222 Valencia Boulevard in Valencia.
