Congressman Garcia Raises Concerns In President Biden’s Issue Of Cyber Attacks On U.S. Companies

Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, and other lawmakers sent a letter to President Joe Biden last week regarding Biden’s inactivity in resolving several cyberattacks on U.S. companies.

The highest concern Garcia and other lawmakers had mentioned in the letter involving the cyberattacks are the attacks upon José Batista Sobrinho (JBS), USA-North America’s largest meatpacker, according to officials.

“We cannot allow American companies and infrastructure to become vulnerable to cyberthreats,” Garcia said. “America is the leader of the Free World and our lack of action in addressing these attacks sets a dangerous precedent for the future.”

JBS is currently the second-largest poultry producer and processes 25 percent of U.S. beef and 20 percent of U.S. domestic pork, according to officials.

As JBS USA is an essential provider of America’s food supply chain as well as other supermarket chains and countless consumer brands, these cyber attacks are expected to impact America’s economy, according to officials.

“The American people demand security and confidence in our nation’s ability to manage acts of hostility by outside influences,” lawmakers said.

Other cyberattacks lawmakers have mentioned in the letter involve hospitals, local government agency breaches, the Colonial Pipeline and hacking the New York Subway System, according to officials.

“I joined my colleagues in urging President Biden to investigate those behind the recent cyberattacks and to take preventative measures against future cyberattacks,” Garcia said.

Garcia and other lawmakers expect responsible parties to be held accountable due to the Biden Administration’s lack of action toward the recent cyber attacks, according to officials.

Lawmakers encourage a stronger diplomatic stance in which Biden should take with nations who do not support curbing attacks within their borders, according to officials.

“We call on your urgent action to resolve this matter and ensure America’s national security,” lawmakers said.
