Over the Fourth of July weekend, law enforcement officials arrested 22 drivers for DUI-related incidents, including one person who injured two passengers in a 14 Freeway crash.
During the long weekend, officers with the California Highway Patrol, (CHP) Newhall Area Office made 16 driving under the influence (DUI) -related arrests, and deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station arrested six people for similar charges.
Of the 16 DUI arrests CHP officers made, one of those was a felony charge.
Around 3 a.m. Saturday, first responders received reports of a solo-vehicle traffic collision involving a Chevy Tahoe on the northbound 14 Freeway near Escondido Canyon Road in Agua Dulce, said Officer Josh Greengard, spokesperson for the CHP Newhall Area Office.
“Two of the five passengers were injured from the collision,” Greengard said.
Due to the driver injuring others in a collision while under the influence of either alcohol or a controlled substance, he was arrested and booked on felony DUI charges, according to officials.
As of the publication of this article, it is unknown how intoxicated the suspect was at the time of the crash.

Other arrests made over the weekend included two Arizona residents who were charged with animal cruelty, after they allegedly left two dogs in a hot car while they were at Six Flags Magic Mountain, resulting in the pets’ death, according to officials.
Deputies also arrested several people for
- being in possession of an assault weapon
- Being a felony in possession of tear gas
- domestic violence charges.
