The California Highway Patrol (CHP) arrested two suspects on Thursday after a K-9 led to the recovery of approximately 10 pounds of methamphetamine during a traffic stop, officials said.
While patrolling the 5 Freeway corridor within the Newhall Area Thursday, a CHP officer noticed a Toyota Corolla speeding, according to a statement from CHP Newhall officials.
The officer noticed several indicators of criminal activity upon contacting the two occupants in the vehicle, according to CHP officials.
Nero, a CHP K-9, was deployed to sniff the vehicle due to suspicious activity.
A vehicle search was initiated after the K-9 alerted to the odor of narcotics, according to a statement from CHP Newhall.
Upon a subsequent search of the vehicle, approximately 10 pounds of methamphetamine were recovered.
Both occupants of the vehicle were arrested on felony charges Thursday, according to CHP.
