SCV Boys & Girls Club Sends Valentine’s Day Cards To Santa Clarita Seniors

The Boys & Girls Club of Santa Clarita Valley made a special delivery last Friday to Sunrise Senior Living on McBean Parkway, sending 120 handmade Valentine’s Day cards to residents.

Delivered by club board member Matt Carpenter and club staff Ali Campbell, the cards were made by the members of the SCV Boys & Girls Club in the week leading up to Valentine’s Day.

This year’s Valentine’s Day cards held a special meaning since the COVID-19 pandemic has heavily impacted both the children and senior populations, with children experiencing social isolations with virtual learning and seniors experiencing isolation due to their high-risk status.

“The kids served by Boys and Girls Club or Santa Clarita Valley all received gifts during the holiday season and got to feel special, thanks to the incredible generosity of people in the community, “ said Matthew Nelson, Chief Executive Officer at the SCV Boys & Girls Club. “For Valentine’s Day, we wanted to remind kids of the importance of thinking of others. Kids have an amazing way of bringing joy, especially to our seniors.”

The Valentine’s Day gesture aimed to spread messages of love and kindness from kids to seniors.

“I hope the cards make the seniors feel loved,” said Gladys, a 7-year-old participant in the Valentine’s Day program.

The SCV Boys & Girls Club is currently providing remote learning support, full-day childcare and virtual programs for teens while schools are in remote learning.
