Santa Clarita Valley Weekend Arrests Double Over Previous Weekend

Over the weekend, 38 arrests were reported in the Santa Clarita Valley, double the arrests  compared to the previous weekend.

38 arrests were reported by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office, double the 19 arrests from the previous weekend, according to weekend arrest logs.

14 of the weekend arrests were felonies out of 38 total arrests. One of these arrests was a Canyon Country resident, charged with sexual assault against a person under 16 years old, whose bail was set at $1,000,000.

18 of the 38 weekend arrests, 47 percent, were charges related to drugs and alcohol. Nine of the drug/alcohol charges were reported as drivers under the influence (DUI) of drugs, alcohol or both.

Seven of those 18 arrests were reported as possession of a controlled substance or narcotics. The other two drug/alcohol-related charges were public drunkenness and possession of drunk paraphernalia each.

Out of the 19 total reported arrests, 17 arrested individuals were residents outside of Santa Clarita.

Not included in that count were six transient individuals, who were charged with carrying a concealed dagger, and two counts of vehicle theft, among others.

Over the weekend, the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station Burglary Team “organized and led a saturation/plain clothes operation at various retail locations throughout the Valley to reduce and suppress crime,” according to Candice Gonzalez, spokesperson for the station.

The operation resulted in 13 arrested ranging from no bail warrants, illegal narcotics, stolen vehicles, burglary tools and theft.

“Several plain clothes personnel were utilized inside the stores, while marked/ unmarked patrol cars were utilized in the surrounding areas,” wrote Gonzalez. “There will be several more operations planned between now and Christmas at our major shopping centers in our efforts to continue to stay proactive against crime.”
