Two Arrested For Copper Wire Theft After Saugus Crash

Two people were arrested Friday night for grand theft of copper wire after their vehicle overturned and took out a streetlight in a Saugus crash, officials said.

Around 10:30 p.m. Friday night, emergency responders received a call for a rolled-over vehicle near the intersection of Copper Hill Drive and Deer Springs Drive in Saugus, according to Los Angeles County Fire Department officials.

“It involved two cars, they hit a streetlight (and) took it out,” said Dispatch Supervisor Bernard Peters at the time of the crash.

Firefighters had to remove the passengers from the vehicle due to it being overturned, according to Peters.

Both the driver and passenger were later arrested at the scene by deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department after further investigation.

“During investigation, deputies found numerous collections of copper wire within the truck, believed to be stolen,” said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Sheriff’s Station in a social media post Monday.

Jonathan Stahl, 42, of Saugus and Alberto Castaneda, 27, of Canyon Country, were both arrested for grand theft of copper and later released with a citation.
