New Website Created By City To Tackle Santa Clarita Homelessness

To combat rising homelessness across the Santa Clarita Valley, the Community Task Force on Homelessness launched a website designed as a one-stop destination for locals to access homelessness services.

In a statement released Monday, officials announced that the City of Santa Clarita teamed up with the Community Task Force on Homelessness to launch a new website devoted to attacking rising homelessness.

“The Homeless Action website was designed to include a detailed list of actions taken by both the City and Task Force to combat and prevent homelessness, and it features an easy-to-navigate directory of services available in Santa Clarita,” Monday’s statement reads.

The public website is reportedly a one-stop destination for its users, built for Santa Clarita residents to access homelessness services, news on the Community Task Force, and even volunteer opportunities for others in Santa Clarita.

The site’s information for locals includes an updated homeless point-in-time count, showing users how many homeless residents are reported each year in Santa Clarita.

Also featured on the public site, in addition to services for homeless residents, are phone numbers to organizations, including Bridge to Home’s Emergency Shelter and the Santa Clarita Valley Mental Health Center.

The Santa Clarita Community Task Force that launched this site is headed by City Councilmember Cameron Smyth, and is made up of more than 30 local organizations working toward the same goal.

According to officials with the City of Santa Clarita, the city “was recently awarded a Measure H grant in the amount of $126,493 from the County of Los Angeles to develop innovative solutions to local homeless issues.”

“In March of 2017, Los Angeles County passed Measure H-which implemented a quarter-cent sales tax generating an estimated $355 million each year- to help fund resources for homeless services for ten years,” reads a statement from the City’s site.

To promote cooperation between local homeless services, the City of Santa Clarita created mini-grants drawn from these funds to work on new solutions to solve the sorts of issues featured on the new website.
