Castaic Union School District To Return To Full Day In-Person Instruction In April

Officials with the Castaic Union School District (CUSD) announced Wednesday that full-time in-person learning is scheduled to resume in April.

Due to COVID-19 cases continuing to decline, and Los Angeles County expected to be in the Orange Tier by next month, Castaic schools are scheduled to return to full-time in-person learning by Apr. 19, said CUSD Superintendent Steve Doyle in a letter to parents Wednesday.

“The schedule will be the same school schedule that we had before COVID-19 hit,” Doyle said.

Students are expected to attend four full days of instruction with Wednesday set to be a shortened day, according to Doyle.

“We are able to accomplish this with the recent change in social distancing to three feet between students and there are still many families that are continuing with Distance Learning,” Doyle said.

All of the current rules still apply with six feet social distancing everywhere else, masks are mandatory as well as hand washing, according to officials.

All students are still expected to need to fill out the health screening via ParentSquare prior to entering campus.

More information will be provided via individual school sites.

Families that are in the Castaic Virtual Campus and those families that were not comfortable returning to in-person instruction are set to remain in Distance Learning for the remainder of the school year.

“We want to express our gratitude to all of the parents who have helped us navigate this pandemic safely over the past year,” Doyle said. “We appreciate your understanding, flexibility, and cooperation in supporting CUSD.”

Our top priority has been the safety of students and staff all along. Hopefully, this begins our journey to recovery and normalcy, according to Doyle.
