Two Detained In Newhall After Fleeing From Deputies

Two individuals were taken into custody in Newhall Saturday morning after reportedly fleeing from deputies, resulting in officials setting up a small containment in the area.

Just before 9:45 a.m. Saturday, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station were patrolling near 8th Street and Chestnut Street in Newhall when they came across a pair of individuals in a silver Honda sedan.

“Deputies saw a traffic violation, they ran past a stop sign and then immediately started running,” said Sgt. Jepson with the station. “They pulled up really fast, got out and started running from (deputies).”

However, after a brief containment, deputies were able to take both individuals into custody at gunpoint, according to officials on scene.

Upon further investigation, deputies on scene learned that the pair may be connected to an attempted assault on a deputy earlier in the week, when an individual reportedly tried to hit a deputy with a vehicle as they fled on Wednesday. However, Jepson was unable to confirm whether or not this was the case, as deputies were still on scene investigating.

Deputies searched the silver Honda the pair were in, and the vehicle was later towed.

No injuries were reported in connection with this incident.
