Owner Of Wolf Creek Brewery Remembered

Rob McFerren, the owner of Wolf Creek Brewery, died Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020 after a months-long battle with cancer, his wife announced Saturday.

“We thought we had more time, but a few weeks ago complications led to a quick decline and, on Wednesday the 30th, he lost his fight and died peacefully in his sleep at home,” read a Saturday social media post from his wife, Laina McFerren.

The McFerrens have used their position as the founders of one of the community’s most beloved restaurants and breweries to give back for over 20 years, providing catering, venue space, and donations for nonprofits and events throughout the community.

Monika’s Tacos, a business McFerren supported, wrote “our hearts are broken with you. Thank you, to you and Rob for believing in us and helping us. We can’t imagine what you and your family are going through. We are praying for you and the girls and your family.”

“Our community lost a very wonderful husband, father, friend, business owner, boss, leader, and quietly hilarious human being,” wrote local realtor Rebecca Plise Mendoza. “2020 has brought much loss, but this feels most devastating.”

Brain Schmitz, owner of Palmdale Brewery Lucky Luke, said “Rob McFerren, you’ll forever be remembered as a great friend and mentor. The McFerren’s and I hit it off early in my brewing career and they were incredibly supportive from day one. Any time I needed anything, they were there with no hesitation.”

Fellow Santa Clarita brewery, Pocock Brewing Co. had this to say about McFerren:

“This week the world lost a wonderful human being, craft beer lost a great brewer, and we lost a true friend. Our hearts and our deepest sympathies go out to the McFerren Family and everyone at Wolf Creek Brewery. Rob, we are grateful to have known you and you will be forever missed.”

In lieu of flowers, the McFerren family encourages making donations in his name to the Santa Clarita Valley Child & Family Center or the L.A. Brewers Guild.
