Two Small Spot Fires Extinguished in Newhall Pass Sunday

Two small fires were extinguished in the Newhall Pass near the Old Road and 5 Freeway.

Just before 2:45 p.m. Sunday, reports were received of a brush fire near the 5 Freeway and SR-14 connector in the Newhall Pass.

As first responders arrived from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, two small spots were found burning, one near the 5 freeway and 14 freeway connector and another along The Old Road, according to Supervisor Bernard Peters with the Department.

“There were two small spots totaling less than a quarter acre,” Peters said. “Both were in about the same area there, where the road changes to San Fernando.”

The helicopters attached to the call were cancelled and the spots were handled by three fire engines, according to Peters.

As of 3:15 p.m., no roads were closed in relation to the incident.
