Weekend Arrests Slightly Decline Over Holiday Weekend

Despite the longer holiday weekend, a slight decline in weekend arrests was reported compared to the previous weekend.

A total of 26 arrests were reported by the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and California Highway Patrol Newhall Area Office, six fewer arrests from the previous weekend, according to weekend arrest logs.

Of these arrests, 45 percent were made on charges related to drugs and alcohol. Four of those charges were reported as drivers under the influence (DUI) of drugs, alcohol or both.

Another four of those 11 arrests were reported as possession of a controlled substance or narcotics.

Out of the 26 total reported arrests, 12 arrested individuals were residents outside of Santa Clarita, including two residents from San Antonio, TX, and one from Las Vegas, NV.

The two San Antonio residents were charged with grand theft auto, while the Las Vegas resident was charged with forgery/counterfeiting.

Not included in that count were five transient individuals, who were charged a variety of crimes including possession of tear gas and elder abuse.

Approximately 45 percent of the weekend arrests were felonies. One of these arrests was a Newhall transient, charged with corporal injury on a spouse or cohabitant, whose bail was set at $100,000.

Note: arrest data was not available for every weekend in 2020
