Robbery Suspect In Custody After String Of Crimes In Santa Clarita

A robbery suspect is facing a slew of felony charges, including making criminal threats and stealing a vehicle, after he allegedly committed a string of crimes In Santa Clarita Tuesday.

At around 11:45 a.m. Tuesday, deputies responded to Magic Mountain Parkway in Valencia regarding an attempted robbery, said Deputy Natalie Arriaga, spokesperson for the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station.

“Upon arrival, deputies learned the victim was out walking when a dark-colored pick-up truck parked in front of her,” Arriaga said.

A man reportedly exited the vehicle and approached the victim, demanding the cellphone she was holding, according to Arriaga.

The victim refused to give the suspect her cellphone, and the suspect reportedly attempted to grab it from her.  After the victim yelled for the man to leave, he eventually complied and drove away, according to officials.

About an hour later, deputies responded to the 25900 block of Tennyson Lane in Stevenson Ranch regarding a robbery, according to Arriaga.

Upon arrival, deputies learned a man matching the description from the previous call had reportedly stolen the victim’s cellphone and fled in a black pick-up truck.

While deputies were responding, a sergeant alerted deputies that a man matching the suspect description had driven alongside them at a stoplight on McBean Parkway, just west of Orchard Village Drive in Valencia, according to Arriaga.

“Deputies conducted a traffic stop and detained the male adult,” Arriaga said.

Both victims positively identified the man as the robbery suspect, Arriaga added.

As the investigation continued, deputies learned that the man had called his sister between the two robberies and threatened to harm her, Arriaga added.

The man is also believed to have made attempts to rob two additional Valencia businesses sometime Tuesday, according to Arriaga.

Additionally, the investigation determined that the suspect was in a stolen vehicle, which was reported in a hit-and-run collision on Starkus Way in Valencia earlier in the day.

Jagdeep Sohal, 43,  of Bakersfield, was arrested on robbery, attempted robbery, being in possession of a stolen vehicle, and criminal threats, all of which were felony charges, Arriaga added.

Sohal was arrested and transported to the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station’s jail with bail set at $0, according to arrest records.
