Worship Protest To Be Hosted In Valencia On New Year’s Eve

A northern California volunteer pastor and nonprofit founder plans to hold an outdoor worship event at a Valencia church on New Year’s Eve as the final event of his “Let Us Worship” faith protests he has been holding across the country over the past several months.

Sean Feucht, a former Republican Congressional candidate and volunteer pastor for Bethel Church in Redding, CA, plans to culminate his series of outreach events with “Let Us Worship,” a concert and worship event set to take place in the parking lot of Higher Vision Church in unincorporated Valencia.

A social media post from Tuesday, Dec. 29 clarified that the event was not organized by Higher Vision, but that church officials would “love for you to join us as we worship & pray for revival in our region, state, & country.”

Representatives from Higher Vision Church were unavailable for comment as of Wednesday.

These worship concerts have been met with some controversy due to the fact that such events flout current coronavirus restrictions on gathering with others and wearing a mask in many states, including California.

In response to several media pieces on the potential for these concerts to become “superspreader” events, the most recent of which were held in Echo Park and on Skid Row, Feucht took to social media Wednesday afternoon.

Feucht accuses state and federal governments, as well as social media of “silencing the faithful, banning our voices, and outright attacking our God-given right to declare His goodness” on his Let Us Worship site.

“States across America, including here in California have shut down church services and even outlawed singing in church. Instagram and Twitter is censoring Christian voices every single day,” reads the Let Us Worship website. “And every hour that passes they grow bolder in their efforts to silence the faithful. It’s time for the Church to rise up with one voice and tell our government leaders and the rulers of big tech that we refuse to be silenced!”

On Saturday, Dec. 19, Los Angeles County Department of Public Health reversed its ruling that Los Angeles County religious services were not allowed to be held indoors. This decision came in the midst of one of the most widespread COVID-19 spikes in the county.

As of Wednesday, places of worship in L.A. County are permitted to offer indoor and outdoor services, provided that strict physical distancing is followed and masks are worn at all times.

LADPH officials announced Wednesday that over 10,000 people had died across the county as a result of COVID-19 since the onset of the pandemic, and that out of the average 170 people dying per day in L.A. County, 150 of those deaths were due to COVID-19-related illnesses.

“It’s not too late to cancel your plans to gather or to travel. We can still reverse our course and we have been pleading with many of our residents here in Los Angeles County to take your celebrations online and do everything virtually,” said L.A. County Supervisor Hilda Solis during a Wednesday press briefing. “It will feel different certainly but it’s necessary, for the sake of the safety of our public and our people in our families”
