Hart High School Closes Campus Due To Coronavirus Cases

Hart High School in Newhall is to temporarily close its campus to remaining students and staff members amid reports of positive cases of COVID-19.

“Today, we were notified by the LA County Department of Public Health that Hart High School will need to be temporarily closed because of the existence of at least three linked cases of COVID-19 on campus,” said William S. Hart High School District Superintendent Mike Kuhlman in a statement Wednesday night. “This will require the closure of the campus for a 14-day period that will extend through at least December 30th.”

This closure is of the physical campus and is said to not disrupt any instruction for students. Classes will continue through the end of the semester, which is Friday, December 18.

“Students receiving intervention support in-person have already transitioned to an online format,” Kuhlman added. “Most staff have reverted to working remotely following the District’s message on Monday night. The small number of remaining staff members on site will now plan to work remotely unless otherwise notified by site administration.”

According to law, specific details on those who have tested positive are not to be released. Only staff and students who have been notified by the school are required to quarantine themselves.

Hart High School  will not be able to distribute food during the period of this shutdown. Parents should be redirected to Placerita Junior High School as an alternate food distribution site, according to Kuhlman.

“We don’t want to minimize the significance of a temporary shutdown due to linked COVID cases,” Kuhlman said. “The increased number of cases only highlights the need for us all to do our part to slow the spread of the virus.”

The next step is said to include a visit from the LA County Department of Public Health staff, including a physician, to walk the site and provide suggestions for how we can improve safe and healthy practices.

“Thank you for your patience and understanding,” the Superintendent said. “We have every reason to believe we will be back in action at Hart High on January 11, 2021. In the meantime, please do your part to help get these COVID numbers down so that we can begin the process of safely bringing students back onto campus.”
