Agua Fire Breaks Out Near 14 Freeway In Agua Dulce


The Agua Fire broke out near the 14 Freeway in Agua Dulce Thursday prompting a response from firefighters.

UPDATE: 2:30 p.m. — The Agua Fire has been stopped at about 10 acres, with firefighters achieving an estimated 50% containment of the blaze, according to the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

UPDATE: 1:05 p.m. — A SIG-Alert has been issued for the N0. 3 and 4 lanes of the southbound 14 Freeway near Agua Dulce Canyon Road due to the Agua Fire.

The blaze had reportedly reached 10 acres in size shortly after 1 p.m. Thursday.

Original Post: The brush fire, dubbed the Agua Fire, was first reported to firefighters around 12:10 p.m. near the southbound 14 Freeway at Agua Dulce Canyon Road as a vehicle fire, said a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

“There are southwest winds at 20 mph,” said Leslie Lua, spokesperson for the department. “They’re going to be dipping out of Castaic Lake.”

By just after 12:20 p.m. Thursday, the Agua Fire had reportedly reached two to three acres in size.

The blaze is currently burning in light fuels with no structures threatened, according to Fire officials.

The southbound 14 Freeway on-ramp at Agua Dulce Canyon Road is shut down as of 12:25 p.m. Thursday, with traffic backed up in the area, according to California Highway Patrol (CHP) logs.

A full brush assignment from both Los Angeles County Fire and the Angeles National Forest are en route to the fire.
