Mueller took to social media Wednesday to congratulate Wilk on his win, as well as to thank his supporters.
“It looks like we came up just a bit short. But I am beyond grateful for all of you,” he wrote. “We reached thousands of people who will now be plugged into our electoral process for life, ready for the next cycle and the one after that. For decades to come, thousands more voices will now be heard because of all of you.”
As of Wednesday afternoon, Wilk led by over 6,000 votes, having attained an estimated 50.8% of the vote. He was unavailable for comment as of Wednesday afternoon.

For his part, Mueller went on to state that he plans to head back into the courtroom to continue his work as an immigration lawyer.
“I’m particularly looking forward to representing asylum seekers again, and to be able to help them rebuild their lives anew,” he wrote. “Most of all, I’m feeling hopeful for the future. And it feels so damn good to feel hopeful again. It’s been too long. I hope you feel it too.”
The SD-21 race was one of two local races deemed a close contest by the state of California, the second of which is taking place between Congressman Mike Garcia, R-Santa Clarita, and Assemblywoman Christy Smith, D-Santa Clarita, for California’s 25th Congressional District (CA-25).
As of Tuesday afternoon, Garcia led by just over 400 votes. An update in the CA-25 race is expected to come from Los Angeles County on Friday.
County officials across the state of California have until the beginning of December to report their final results to the state for the presidential race, while they have until Dec. 4 to report the results for all other races. The state then has one week from that deadline to certify the results of the 2020 election.
