The Los Angeles County Registrar-Recorder/County Clerk’s office shared a statement on social media affirming the ballots seen being collected in a video shared by President Donald Trump were valid and legally cast.
Though not officially a response to the President directly, the statement appears to have been prompted by a tweet from Trump on Wednesday which shared a video of ballots being collected from a Vote by Mail drop box in Los Angeles County.
The video has since accumulated 7.1 million views as of Thursday afternoon on Trump’s tweet alone.

Within an hour of Trump sharing the video, the LA County RR/CC tweeted a statement about the ballots collected at Vote by Mail Drop Boxes.
“Yes, they are ballots,” reads the statement. “Valid, legally cast ballots collected and processed by authorized election officials in accordance with the California Elections Code.”

The video in question however had surfaced prior to Trump’s tweet and was taken Nov. 4, according to officials.
The RR/CC’s office had previously responded on the morning of Nov. 5 to earlier circulation of the video on Twitter.
All Drop Boxes were closed and locked at 8PM on Election Night and ballots were collected the following day. These are valid ballots that will be processed and counted during the post-election canvass — like all outstanding vote by mail ballots.

An official release was also shared by the RR/CC that reaffirmed the ballots were legitimately cast and collected and would be processed and counted.
“All Official Ballot Drop Boxes were closed on Election Day at 8 p.m. and the scheduled ballot collection took place the following day,” read the statement. “The ballots in the footage are valid ballots that will be processed and tallied in our Official Election Canvass. Additionally, the individuals in the video are Registrar staff.”
The Registrar’s office is still counting ballots as of Thursday, and is expecting to certify the election by Dec. 3.
