Webb took to social media Wednesday evening to declare victory over Sturgeon.
“Thank you to everyone for your support, your positive thoughts, and your belief in how James can empower equity for all students,” reads a post from Webb’s official campaign page. “James is eager to begin his work on the board and support all stakeholders!”
The latest vote count update from Los Angeles County on Tuesday afternoon, which showed Webb ahead of Sturgeon by nearly 3,000 votes.
Sturgeon told KHTS on Thursday that he had called to congratulate Webb within two days of Election Day.
“You don’t go into something like this unless you want to win,” he said. “I’ve done it for the past 26 years, but this time it was James’ time to win.”
