The First Year Of College: How To Adapt, Study Well And Have A Friends

With the entrance to the university begins one of the most beautiful stages that you will remember for a long time. I hope this article will be helpful and that you will be able to put into practice many of the tips we will give you to make the most of your next adventure.

The first thing I would tell you is to make the most of your time.

I know you have already heard the typical phrase: time flies by. Well, yes, it does, even if right now it seems like four years, at least, is a long time. When you get to the last year, it looks like it was just yesterday when you were entering the university for the first time, so, although it seems like something that is always said, take advantage of the moment in which you find yourself.

Of course, it’s hard to leave home and not have your family or partner separated from friends who are studying elsewhere, but believe it or not, all of that is still there when you finish your degree and go home. So don’t worry. Focus on exploring your new environment.

STUDY PROCESS

One of the most critical challenges that we face the first year during the university stage is the self-management of time and study. Not so long, the study process was much more personalized, where there were only 20 students per class and a reference book from which we were going to be asked 100%. Nowadays, we have to manage the way we study, take our notes, use the bibliography and be more independent. But on the other hand, today we have lots of benefits too. If you are a modern student, you will find many instruments that make your study easier: a website that writes essays for you, some thematic forums that can help you find the answers you are interested in, etc.

But, despite this, you should still stick to the rules to make your learning process more accessible and structured.

Attend classes

Only the attendance does not serve anything. But since you are in the classroom, it takes advantage of the time, and you will not have to make double the effort at home trying to understand the material.

Take clear and organized notes

If you can’t take them this way, write them down as soon as possible, you will avoid problems of not understanding what you wrote down.

Work daily

Although it may seem that you have not been doing it for long, review, understand, and ask any questions you have.

Otherwise, it will end up forming a snowball, and it will cost you more work.

COMMUNICATION

The most important advice that anyone arriving in a new place can give you is to talk to people, make a new circle of acquaintances who, over time, can become new friends.

All new students enter the same situation, some more shy, others less so, but with uncertainty and fear of the unknown. Help each other and …. you will not be alone!

There is time for everything during the university years, as long as you use your head. Is it possible to go out on university Thursdays? By all means, plan during the week to have papers, homework, or studying ready, and if not, use the weekends to catch up. It’s not an obligation to go out as your friends go. You won’t enjoy college life any less than others if you stay home. Don’t feel obligated to do the same thing your friends or most people do.

Everyone needs to know their limits, know when you need to stop and have time for yourself, when you want to have dinner or when you want to go all out at a party.

LIVING TOGETHER WITH ROOMMATES

Looking back over all that we live related to study and social life, we come to the jewel in the crown – living together with roommates or in residence. Whether you have decided to live in a shared apartment or a university residence, you will have your pros and cons. We imagine that you have already evaluated them.

Let’s focus on the advice that any parent would give you when facing living alone:

Living together is always a compromise, and if everyone does their part, everything will work out fine, and not many problems will arise, but as they say, to each his own. Well, that’s where the first tip comes into play: try not to disturb and respect your classmates. With simple examples, everything is better understood: if you don’t like to find the bathroom dirty, don’t leave it dirty; if loud music bothers you, don’t do it; if you don’t want to find unwashed dishes, don’t do it yourself. In short, treat people as you would like to be treated.

Don’t judge colleagues. Try to talk and understand how they behave before making a negative reproach. Things may not be done your way, but that doesn’t mean it’s wrong.

Establish some basic rules for coexistence issues:

  • such as making the distribution of the zones clean
  • who and when to throw the garbage
  • if the dishes are cleaned individually or jointly, it will also be necessary to establish who cleans each day
  • if the table is picked up immediately after eating or not

Things that can generate problems and that through the agreements are solved. Remember that we come from a different family, as we already said, and we have our customs and way of acting.

Be tidy, with the common areas of the apartment, of course, but even more so with your room. The latter will help you have harmony, tranquility, and a place to study and rest. In the end, physical order helps metal rest.

And last but not least. Learn to clean, cook, do the laundry – this will give you more independence, and your parents will thank us for it.

For many, the college years are the best. It is a time where you have a lot of freedom being so young, enjoy it, take advantage of the moment and every opportunity that comes your way.

I sincerely hope that all these tips will help you. We know they are undeniable things, but things need to be read to be remembered and kept in mind.

The university stage is the best. Take advantage of the time and enjoy it. Give time to everything.
