This weekend, law enforcement officials in Santa Clarita made a total of 19 arrests, a spike in arrests compared to last weekend’s 11.
Between Friday, Jan. 7 through Sunday, Jan. 9, deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office arrested 19 individuals this weekend, with the vast majority of charges related to drugs or alcohol.

Out of the 19 total bookings logged this weekend by law enforcement officials, 14 were drug- or alcohol-related, including two misdemeanor charges for the transportation, sale, furnishing etc. of marijuana, according to booking logs.
The weekend saw a rise in DUI charges, with eight in total appearing in arrest logs, although none were listed as felonies according to law enforcement officials.
Of the others in the same category, one charge was being drunk with drugs and alcohol, one was for possession of a controlled substance and another was possession of a narcotic controlled substance, according to officials.
Notably this weekend there were a total of 14 arrests of individuals from addresses outside of the Santa Clarita Valley, almost three fourths of the total bookings, according to officials.
Some other notable charges include a felony involving receiving stolen property greater than $950, two illegal speeding contest charges and two charges of battery against a former spouse, according to arrest logs.
