Wilk Recognizes Contributions Of Filipino Leaders During Filipino-American History Month

In an effort to say thank you and bring recognition to the Filipino community, Senator Scott Wilk, R-Santa Clarita, recognized two Filipino-American leaders for their outstanding work in Senate District 21.

Elvie Ancheta and Earle Potot have served above and beyond the call of duty in their roles, creating lasting changes and uplifting the lives of those in their communities, defending veterans and American freedoms, according to Wilk’s office

October is National Filipino-American History Month, celebrated since 1992. Senator Wilk wanted to bring recognition to some of his community members for their service and dedication to others as well as bring attention to the importance of this people group.

According to the Filipino-American National Historical Society, Filipino Americans are the second-largest Asian American group in the nation and the third-largest ethnic group in California.

“The month of October marks the changes of the season and an opportunity to celebrate Filipino-American History Month. California’s rich history includes positive contributions by Filipino Americans who have left their mark in a variety of fields, including serving our nation in the armed forces, working as doctors and nurses, and laboring in the agricultural fields throughout the state from Sacramento to the Coachella Valley,” said Senator Wilk.

According to Senator Wilk, Ancheta is a dedicated and compassionate servant who oversees the William “Pete” Knight Veterans Home in Lancaster, which is a 60-bed assisted living facility for our elderly veterans. Potot is a proud U.S. Army veteran who has served more than 15 years. He has received multiple awards for outstanding performance and professionalism.

“Their achievements and positive contributions are integral to our community. I am pleased to recognize their outstanding achievements during October, as California commemorates Filipino-American History Month,” stated Wilk.

Senator Wilk proudly voted in support of Assembly Concurrent Resolution 282 (ACR 282, 2018) which marked October as FAHM and Assembly Concurrent Resolution 104 (ACR 104, 2019), which recognized the 121st Anniversary of Philippine Independence, according to his office.
