Santa Clarita Weekend Arrests Drop By More Than Half, Majority Involve Drugs, Alcohol

This weekend, arrests dropped to 11 compared to Thanksgiving weekend’s 26 with the majority involving drugs or alcohol, according to law enforcement officials.

Arrests decreased by more than half from Friday, Dec. 3, to Sunday, Dec. 5, and the largest portion of bookings were reported as drug-and-alcohol-related arrests by deputies with the Santa Clarita Valley Sheriff’s Station and officers with the California Highway Patrol (CHP) Newhall Area Office.

Out of the 11 arrests reported this weekend, five were recorded as DUI arrests and one as possession of a controlled substance while armed, according to law enforcement officials.

Each reported DUI was charged as a misdemeanor instead of a felony, according to officials.

Only three of 11 arrests logged this weekend were reported felonies, according to booking logs.

Some other notable arrests included one assault with a deadly weapon that was not a firearm, one battery against a former spouse and one burglary, according to officials.

Four out of the 11 reported bookings were of nonresidents of the Santa Clarita Valley, with the remainder being residents, according to arrest logs.
