Santa Clarita City Council Approves Construction Plan Of Central Park Expansion

The City of Santa Clarita board members approved of the plan to expand Central Park in Saugus at their regular board meeting on Tuesday.

The construction plan for Central Park includes expanding the southwestern portion of the park by adding four full-sized multi-purpose fields with new field lighting, landscaping, irrigation, restrooms and additional parking.

“It’s important that these fields are multi-purpose. We have so many different sports and activities like disc golf and cricket that happen at Central Park,” said Mayor Bill Miranda.

The board approved the plan for the Central Park Buildout, awarding a construction contract to Spectrum Construction Group for about $9,000,000.

Much of the funding for this project comes from the COVID-19 Response Fund for about $11,000,00. This decreases project spending in the city’s other accounts.

“I’m excited to see these fields be built and running, especially for our high school and club track teams,” said Councilmember Cameron Smyth. A new track path is expected to be built with the new fields.

In addition to the new fields, improvements are expected to be made to the dog park as a part of the construction.

Other things approved by city council was the funding for a transitional nursing facility at Henry Mayo as a part of the hospital’s renovation plan.

The Council also approved a construction contract for the building of sidewalks on Sierra Highway between Scherzinger Way and Skyline Ranch Road.

The city’s agenda is available to review here.
