Los Angeles Fire Department Hosts Autism Awareness Event At Six Flags Magic Mountain

The Los Angeles Fire Department hosted its first Sirens of Silence event on Friday, collaborating with Six Flags Magic Mountain in Santa Clarita to raise awareness for autism.

In collaboration with Six Flags Magic Mountain and Hurricane Harbor, the L.A Fire Department supplied the parks with sensory-sensitive items in order to accommodate those on the autism spectrum.

The department also collaborated with Pristine Rehab Care in the city of Diamond Bar, meeting with 120 community members with autism, their families and therapists in order to learn about responding to individuals with autism and other special needs.

“Our collaboration with Pristine Rehab Care and Six Flags Magic Mountain is the first of many Sirens of Silence initiatives to better serve individuals with special needs in Los Angeles County. We will continue to build ongoing relationships between first responders and our communities,” said Fire Chief Daryl L. Osby.

The Sirens of Silence program promotes special needs awareness, education, and inclusion through training and extensive resources, such as a picture board with emotions and common needs and a visual schedule that gives patients a clear picture of what to expect when first responders care for them or their family members.

The picture board, visual schedule, and other materials are available to download here.
